DKS Origins: The Dead King
The kingdom of Reinia is collapsing under the onslaught of invading armies. What was once a proud realm is now drowning in fire and betrayal. In the heart of the siege, Counselor Pyrrhus, the King’s most loyal general, makes a final act of devotion that changes the fate of Reinia forever. Surrounded in the courtyard and facing overwhelming forces, Pyrrhus ignites the oil soaked ground and sacrifices himself, stopping the invaders long enough for the King and his nobles to reach the throne room. His fiery end is not the conclusion of his story, but the beginning of something far more powerful.
The King and his closest advisers soon fall as well. Yet death does not claim them. Bound by ancient royal magic, their souls are tied to the throne. This spell ensures that the crown must protect the realm until a worthy heir is born. When the King awakens in death, he is consumed by guilt, believing he failed his people. But Lord Cassian, keeper of wisdom, reminds him of the ancient prophecy. Even in death, the King must continue his duty. A true ruler does not abandon the kingdom, even beyond the veil.
Sir Aldric, who died defending the gates, rises again at his King’s side. Pyrrhus returns, aflame with eternal valor. Cassian stands as the ever present scholar. Together they form The Dead Kings Court, a council of undying loyalty forged from sacrifice, honor, and unbroken oaths. Their purpose is clear. They must protect Reinia until destiny sends the one capable of reclaiming the throne and releasing them from this eternal charge.
In the moonlit library, where spectral light cuts through shattered stained glass, the Dead King accepts his role. Guided by his Court, he understands that leadership does not end with breath. The kingdom still needs him.
Their unity lasts only a moment.
From the shadows emerges the Traitor, the very man whose betrayal led to Reinia’s fall. His twisted spirit is marked by the many weapons that ended his life, a gruesome reminder of his treachery. He reveals a truth far darker than the curse itself. The ancient spell that binds the King also binds every member of the royal inner circle, including those who betrayed him. And while the Dead Kings Court seeks only to protect the realm, the Traitor has a far different ambition.
He intends to rule it. Forever.
His schemes in life were only the beginning. Now, bound to the same eternal fate, he seeks to seize Reinia in death and reshape it in his own image.
Dead King Society is a dark fantasy about duty that survives death, sacrifice that transcends flesh, and the heavy cost of power when loyalty and betrayal share the same eternal throne. The Dead King and The Dead Kings Court watch over the ruins of Reinia, preparing for battles yet to come. Against ancient magic. Against invading forces. And against the Traitor who seeks to claim the crown of the dead.
At their darkest moment, the nobles stand with their King and speak the oath that defines them.
“All Kings die. Long live the Kings.”
